Acacia albida est un arbre épineux atteignant 20-25m de haut, avec un fût droit et cylindrique atteignant 1m de diamètre, et à cime arrondie plus ou moins dense. L’écorce est gris brun, profondément fissurée ou crevassée, fibreuse, et à tranche brun pâle. Les rameaux sont blanchâtres, pubescent puis glabre, parfois en zigzag.

Les feuilles Acacia Albida sont alternes, bipennées, vert bleuté, avec 3-9 paires de pinnules et 7-15 paires de foliolules par pinnule. L’épi est dense blanc crème à jaune disposé à la base des feuilles de 7-10 cm de long. Le fruit est une gousse indéhiscente, épaisse et ligneuse, boursouflée, recourbée en demi-cercle, jaune vif à orange, et contenant 10 à 25 graines. Les graines sont. Les feuilles, les petites branches et les gousses font un excellent fourrage que mangent avec avidité moutons, chèvres, chameaux, bovins (NAS 1979) et chevaux (Palgrave 1981). Les pasteurs nomades qui parcourent la ceinture septentrionale de la savane émondent les branches afin de constituer une réserve de de fourrage pour la saison sèche (Wickens 1969).

Les terres agricoles sèches du Niger peuvent normalement nourrir 10 bovins au km2; en revanche, dans les zones où A. albida est une essence commune, la capacité de charge peut monter jusqu’à 20. On peut sécher et stocker les gousses de A. albida pour s’en servir ensuite comme fourrage, de qui n’est pas possible avec la plupart des autres essences du genre dont les gousses s’ouvrent en séchant et répandent leurs graines (NAS 1979).
